After we got back from the palace the girls went to Sondra's room with their cups and had a soup and crackers. I had a shower as we were going to be driving back to Beijing and then straight to dinner and then the train overnight. Again the lunch was kind of gross and I ate rice again as I knew I needed to eat something, I also had a steamed bun so mom don't worry I am fine. I feel good and so does MacLean. There was a seafood dish in custard that just about made me lose my rice. I just kept spinning the lazy susan.
we had our luggage picked up at 11:15 and then right after lunch it was onto the bus. I knew it would be at least three hours before the washroom so I went constantly throughout the meal. I always know that when a bathroom isn't accessible I need to go. Anyway the drive was uneventful, MacLean had a movie on the laptop and so she had a crowd around her and so did Alexa as she had a DVD player as well. so the kids were quiet and I dozed, took pictures, read my book and chatted with my neighbours. The scenery was breathtaking.

We stopped about an hour and a half outside Beijing and had a washroom break. It was in a lovely 5 star resort. The kids just ask one question each time we stop. IS it squats??? and when we say no there are cheers from the back of the bus. I am including a picture of the squat toilet and a picture of a western style toilet with an old woman's face on it. Not sure what they are telling us but whatever.. I am happy to use either.

Stay tuned for more after this brief interlude of pictures. ONe of the pictures is a truck carrying cows into town, they were sliding all over and just seemed to be crammed in not tethered in any way. This is life in rural China.

Enjoy! S
