About Hope

Well a few people have been asking about this place so I thought I would take a few minutes and tell you about how it works. Joyce and Robin (Joyce is a doctor) felt there was a need to see special needs kids with medical issues taken care of. They worked it out with the government to become a foster home way back 8 years ago. Then they got their first child Katie whom they adopted. They continued to take in many children and decided to build this home and got to rent the land and got money to build it. They hired nannies, workers, etc. to help run it and now they have three other homes. The other homes mainly do palliative care and long term care. Many of those babies are going to die. They provide them, meds to keep them comfortable and a dignified exsistence until the end of their little lives. next time we are here I would love to visit those places. The children they get are from many different orphanages and they call Joyce and Robin when a baby comes in with a deformity, cleft lip/palate, heart issue, respiratory issues, spina bifida etc. then robin and joyce somehow through the many sponsors and donations get the money to have the surgeries done. The surgeries are done in Hong Kong, Singapore and the US mainly. Most of the babies here have the surgeries and when deemed well enough can be put on the list for waiting children. Many of them have to go back to their home orphanage where they were originally registered to complete adoptions. those are the bittersweet days like last week when we saw two little ones leave to go to their orphanages and then picked up by parents. Because HOpe isn't in the business of adoptions they have to always send the children back to have the adoptions completed. Some of the children have medical issues too complicated to ever be adopted and eventually when they are well enough they will go back to their home orphanage and maybe into Foster Care. The Hope home has an outreach program which has many Foster parents and they come into the home for clothing, meds needles etc. We had two of those kids at the preschool today. It is an amazing place. There you go for those inquiring minds. Shauna

Hi Shauna and MacLean,

Thanks for the explanation about Hope house. It is nice to see that Robyn and Joyce were able to fill a need. I can't imagaine how painful it must be to say goodbye to the children who spend time with them. I guess the saving grace is many are going to end up with forever families.

Take Care,
Sondra,Tim and Alexa

Hey Shauna -- if you are checking email -- b/c I can't post to the blog from my old school mac -- I am reading it - this is the way it is in my screen:
Each
word
is
on
a
line
by
itself
so
it
reads
like
a
grocery
list -
can
you
imagine?

Not all the photos come through - but what I've seen are so wonderful -- and what I've read is so bittersweet -- I'm so envious of your wonderful experience there - how rewarding it must be for you to feel like you are
making a difference to these children on the other side of the world.

--- It's such an amazing journey --I'm so pleased so hear it is going
so well - Can't wait to see you when you get home - send our love to Maclean and tell her how proud we are of the wonderful job she's doing with all the kids.

miss you lots.

ps I'm asking Lianne to post this to the blog for me.

Hi Shauna, just thought we would write you a short note to tell you what a mess your classroom is. We almost fell over at the disaster before us....talk about starting over?? We are hard at work and the job will take more time than any of us anticipated. We are even calling in for back-up (Heather)! We hope you have done alot of shopping keeping those near and dear to you in mind. We hear that there is alot of Olympic items for sale now...just a thought! Oh yeah...something about handbags??? LOL :)

We hope you are having fun and working hard...enjoy the time you have left...looking forward to your return (Help!), your friends and hard-working co-workers...CHRISTINE & KIM
